Thanks to the residents of North Little Rock, we are well on our way to implementing a Capital Improvement Plan focused on improving facilities, better educational opportunities for our students and skills preparation for our community’s employers.
On Feb. 14, 2012, our city passed a millage allowing the North Little Rock School District to begin the process of a $265.6 million rebuilding of the district from 21 campuses to 13 campuses. A combination of new construction, renovations and consolidation of facilities will provide equal opportunities and resources for learning for ALL North Little Rock students. Plans are underway, and construction is anticipated to start near the end of the 2012-2013 school year. Estimated completion is projected for the 2015-2016 year. Current updates to construction and school transitions can be found on this site.
Here are just a few estimated statistics and numbers to help better paint the picture of this massive endeavor for our students and community.
- $265 million construction budget
- $3.4 million in additional local tax revenue
- $2.8 million in additional Arkansas state tax revenue
- $98.5 million in income generated
- $1.47 billion in total economic impact
- 1,827 jobs created (in job years: 1 job year is equal to one full-time job lasting one year)
